About Bridge to a Cool Planet
Bridge to a Cool Planet is a grassroots effort to bring people from all walks of life together to call on governments to fight global warming.
Scientists agree we need to reduce the emissions that cause global warming by 80 to 90 percent if we are to keep our planet from seriously overheating. This will require fundamental changes to how we live, work and travel.
We can't make those changes unless there is broad support from all parts of society -- faith groups, businesses, the least well off, the most privileged, First Nations, children, grandparents, students, families, and the newest Canadians among us.
We won't make those changes unless our governments have the will to act. By coming together and demanding action, we will give politicians the courage to lead.
Our goals:
- Through spectacle, celebration, sheer number of participants and collective calls for action, we will show national media and senior levels of government that the public is united in support of strong action to fight global warming.
- We will build bridges between Vancouver’s cultural communities as well as environmental and social justice movements to increase understanding of our common concerns and the strength that lies in working together.
- We will create exciting venues where the public can find out about the concrete steps they can take in their own lives to reduce emissions, save energy, and fight global warming.
- We will keep it fun, welcoming and all inclusive, because good things happen when people are creative, spontaneous and happy.
If you agree with what we're doing, we welcome you to get involved.
